Special photo essay! The famous Dempster Highway of Canada’s north — the only all-season road in North America to cross the Arctic Circle and the ultimate motorcycle adventure!
In This Photo Essay You Will Discover:
In 2010, I undertook one of the greatest adventures of my life — a solo, 8,000-km motorcycle tour from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, and back. The crux of this adventure ride was the mighty Dempster Highway; 1,472 km of mud, shale, gravel and bad weather leading fro near Dawson City, Yukon, past the Arctic Circle to 68 degrees north, and back again.
In celebration of the trip, and in celebration of my most recent published article about it — found in the March 2011 issue of Motorcycle Mojo Magazine — I give you The Dempster Highway, in six photos!
"At this point, I felt like the tundra would open up and swallow me whole." Remembering the desolation and solitude on the Dempster Highway.
The Mackenzie River: one of two ferry crossings on the Dempster Highway. In winter, it is an ice road.
